"If one advances confidently in the direction of one's dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Henry David Thoreau

The USEF National Dressage Championships are the most prestigious dressage competition in the United States.
With divisions from Junior Rider to Grand Prix, the Championships invite the top 12 riders in the country to face off over two weeks of elite competition. This year, they also host the Selection Trials for the US Olympic Team. The entirety of the dressage world will be watching.
And I have a chance to go.
It’s not confirmed yet. I’ve got one more CDI – internationally-recognized show – to complete. But my 10-year-old Hanoverian mare, Clairvoya, and I swept all three Small Tour classes at our last qualifier, the CDI Saugerties in September 07, and recently scored 75.5% in the Intermediare I at a recognized non-qualifier. We have an exceptional show record together, including the 2006 Region 2 Championship at Intermediare I, and Reserve Championship at Prix St. Georges. We're currently ranked in the top 20, without a drop score. We’re well in the running.
What’s holding us back? The Championships are in California, and I’m based in Northern Virginia, a wildly expensive plane ride away.
To make this dream happen, I’m turning to the equine community at large for help. I know there are quite a few people out there who’ve enjoyed my blog, and I will continue to update it with our adventures. But for the weeks of the Championships, my blog will be subscription only. Subscriptions are available for a minimum donation of $20, either via PayPal or mail.
Your donation will be used to cover the costs of travel to and from the Championships, and to help in my expenses while at the competition. If I am not selected for the Championships, your donation will support my ongoing pursuit of competitive dressage excellence at the international levels.
Thank you in advance for your support!

How can you donate? Two easy ways:
- Use PayPal. Once you have a PayPal account (set-up is free), you can send your contribution instantly to my email address – lauren@spriesersporthorse.com.
- Use the mail. I accept cash and check donations via mail to 6782 Olinger Road, Marshall VA 20115.
Please make sure that your name and email address are included with your donation. Please also feel free to include your mailing address, so I can send you a personal thank-you.
Please direct any questions or comments to lauren@spriesersporthorse.com, or post a comment below. And please feel free to pass this along to any other interested parties. I can accept donations until June 10.

damned, go girl!

when's the ideal deadline on donations? I've some money coming in first I'd prefer to have before there's more outflow :S

I'll edit the post to reflect that there's no deadline on donations, but that my blog for Cali will begin on roughly the 16th of June. To have access to my subscription-based blog, I'll need to have recieved the donation by then.

After the championships will your blog stay a subcription only one or will it be open to the public? (If that makes any sense??)

It will return to public status. Frankly, I'm not totally sure how to use the Livejournal software to make a blog accessible by password or whatever, so I have a feeling I'll be "blogging" those 10-ish days in California by email.

You can put your "subscribers" in a certain friend group, then make those entries accessible to that friend group only. That way you don't have to deal with the hassle of email, and all they have to do is make sure they're logged in to LJ.

That's a really good idea, thank you! I'll have to figure out something for the readership that doesn't have an LJ account.

Well, joining LJ is free and can be done with "fake" information if necessary, so I'd say asking them to take 5 minutes to join so they can read wouldn't be unreasonable. :)

Are the Championships at Murieta Equine Complex?

I'm not sure exactly - you can read all about it at http://www.dressageontheroadtohongkong.com/ (plus see a very creepy flash video of, I think?, Jackie Chan on a horse?)

That's the strangest thing I've ever seen...

"Jackie Chan on a horse", OK that is strange in so many ways. I did not have audio on as I am at work, but just the video was weird. I also had to laugh because he throws himself off buildings, fights foes 3 times his size, and does a number of other dangerous and crazy things, yet he us wearing a riding helmet (YEAH!). I have to assume it was a mandatory part of the costume.

I've friended you after seeing your post over on Equestrian, I'll have to ask the husband but the prospect of reading your LJ during competition week has my appetite whetted!

I think it's so excellent that you're able to do this. Luckily I don't quite have a horse habit to finance so I need to live vicariously through others. I hope you don't mind if it's you!
